Usually, when you picture a steakhouse, you think of a dark restaurant, with wood panels on the wall, and white cloth linens. But go into Charro Steak and you will notice not only a different decor, but also a different kind of steakhouse, and for a good reason.

The Flores family in Tucson has been in business for 99 years. If you are from Tucson or a visitor, you have likely eaten at El Charro restaurant in downtown Tucson or one of their other locations around town. But under the vision of Ray Flores, his Mom, Chef Carlota Flores, and Chef Gary Hickey, they have created a new and delicious concept, a Mexican cuisine-inspired steakhouse.

It Starts With The Ingredients

Charro Steak understands that the foundation of a good restaurant is its ingredients. Grass-fed beef, sustainable fish, cage-free poultry, and a variety of local produce, are the first step of a brilliant and delicious menu. Chef Carlota Flores and Chef Gary Hickey have created a brilliant menu for this unique steakhouse.

The Menu

If you are into seafood, you will like their Tower del Rey. Which is a beautiful collection of lobster, oysters, crab legs, shrimp, oyster shooters, and a couple of beers. But if you want something that will be just as surprising and mind-blowing, try the Charro Escargot. These are prepared with the famous carne seca from El Charro, garlic butter, and a garlic buttered baguette. Words cannot explain how good this is, but it is certainly worth a try.

Of course, the steaks are one of the main dishes at this restaurant, and you will notice that the beef is hand-cut there. From a rib eye to a fillet, you will find the right cut of steak, and if you are not sure what to order, just ask the waiter.

So why is this restaurant not your traditional steakhouse? Well, to get started with, the steaks are cooked under a mesquite fire, and your sides are not the traditional mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. These sides have a Mexican identity, such as chile verdeVerde mashed potatoes, esquites con crema, and chile verde mac & cheese. Instead of your typical steakhouse sides, at Charro Steak you can have a mac and cheese made with four different types of cheese, chile verde, and tortilla crumble.

Lobster Tamal

If you are not into red meat, we suggest you try the Lobster Tamalada, a tamal stuffed with whole lobster as well as drawn butter of garlic and chiltepin.

We suggest you make a reservation to ensure you can get a table, especially on weekends.
